Web development company

A web development company for sites and web apps that do real work

Ojastra is a web development company for businesses whose website has to do more than describe them: take orders, book appointments, let clients log in, sync with the accounting system. We build custom web applications and the sites around them, at a fixed price, with a working version to click every week.

We're a small senior team in Toronto serving clients across Canada and the US by video. We're not a template or design studio; if a simple brochure site is all you need, the free written plan will say so.

Fixed price. You own the code. A working demo every week.

Where website projects stall

A site that looks good and does nothing

Pages are the easy part. Logins, payments, bookings and admin screens are where cheap builds fall over, and where most of our work is.

A theme bent past breaking

Plugins stacked on a template slow the site, clash with updates and leave nobody sure what's safe to change. We build the custom parts properly and leave the commodity parts alone.

Nobody owns the login

The domain is with one person, hosting with another and the developer holds the admin password. Every account we set up is in your company's name.

A site that can't talk to your business systems

Orders arrive by email and get retyped into the accounting tool. We connect the site to your inventory, CRM and accounting so they update each other.

What we build as your website developer

Customer portals

Clients sign in to see orders, invoices, documents and history, and to message you in one place.

Booking and ordering sites

Calendars, quotes, carts and Stripe payments, with confirmations that send themselves.

Ecommerce builds

Custom storefronts, inventory and ERP sync and checkout changes. Store work on Shopify is priced from our Shopify work.

Web app development and dashboards

Internal tools your staff use in the browser: reporting, scheduling, inventory and approvals.

Marketing sites tied to your systems

Fast pages whose forms create leads in your CRM and start the follow-up, instead of landing in an inbox.

Rebuilds of slow or broken sites

We audit what's there and tell you whether to fix it or start again.

How we build for the web

We build on widely used web technology, such as TypeScript and Next.js, so any competent developer can pick the code up later. That's deliberate: a custom site shouldn't lock you in to us. The repository is in your GitHub account, deployments run on hosting in your name, and the documentation covers how to run it.

Speed and search matter, so pages are built to load quickly on a phone and we test them before launch. The marketing pages around a web app are plain, fast and easy to edit, which keeps the focus on the parts of the site that do the work.

Weekly demos work the same for a website as for any software. You get a link to the work in progress every week, so you react to real pages and real flows instead of static mock-ups.

Questions owners ask us

How much does custom web development cost?

A web app with accounts, ordering, booking or a portal is typically $20K–$60K CAD. Connecting a site to one other system, such as a CRM or accounting tool, is usually $5K–$12K. The $1,500 blueprint is credited to the build and gives you a fixed price first.

How long does a custom website or web app take?

Six to twelve weeks for a customer-facing web app and two to four weeks for a single integration or automation. You get a link to the work in progress in the first week or two.

Do you build simple websites from templates?

No. We build custom web applications and the sites around them. If you only need a few pages and a contact form, a template or design studio will cost less, and the free written plan will tell you so.

Is a website developer the same as a web designer?

Designers decide how a site looks; developers build how it works: accounts, payments, data, speed and security. We design the screens a web app needs and build them, but we don't do brand identity or marketing design.

Who owns the website and the code?

You do. The code is in your GitHub account, and the domain, hosting and payment accounts are in your company's name, so nothing is held back if you change developers.

Are you an ecommerce web development company?

For custom builds, yes. We build custom storefronts, inventory and ERP sync and checkout work, and we work on Shopify stores too. That Shopify work is priced from $5K to $30K CAD, depending on how many systems it touches.

Can you take over my existing website?

Yes. We review the code, hosting and plugins, then recommend fixing or rebuilding and give a fixed price for either. A rescue is typically $5K–$20K CAD over two to six weeks.
